How to Pack a Go-Bag: Pet Parent Edition

How to Pack a Go-Bag: Pet Parent Edition

In case of an emergency, having a “go-bag” packed for each member of your family, including your pets, is a fantastic way to help ensure that you can quickly and safely gather essential items in case evacuation is necessary. Read on for our list of items you'll need to create a go-bag for your cat or dog!

🐾 Identification (including a current photo): Ensuring that your dog has proper identification is crucial in case you are separated from them. This can include a collar or harness with an up to date identification tag that includes your name and contact information, as well as a current photo of your pet.

🐾 Medication: If your pet relies on any medication, be sure to have some extra packed in your go-bag. It is recommended to pack at least a week’s worth of essential medication, but the more the better.

🐾 Food, Water and Collapsible Bowls: A minimum of a week’s supply of food and bottled water (per pet) is a very important part of putting together a go-bag. For raw feeding pawrents, we recommend purchasing a freeze-dried raw food to keep on hand in case of an emergency!

🐾  Pet Carrier or Crate: For cats and smaller dogs, a pet carrier is a great way to keep your pets safe and comfortable, especially if you plan to evacuate to a shelter in an emergency situation. If you have room to bring along a crate for larger dogs, it can serve as a wonderful safe space amidst a stressful situation.

🐾 First Aid Kit: Bring along a pet-safe first aid kit in case your pet incurs injury while you navigate an emergency. Pet first aid kits can be purchased, or you can put one together yourself based on your pet’s needs.

🐾 Vet Records: Keeping an updated version of your pets vet/medical records is important in case your vet requires medical attention for any reason. In the event you have to board your pet, take a flight etc. you may need up to date vaccinations records.

🐾 Choose the Right Bag: The best bag to choose for your go-bag is a sturdy, weather resistant bag that can comfortably hold all of your necessary items. Waterproof and fire resistant bags are ideal to keep your belongings and supplies safe no matter the emergency.

🐾 Be sure to keep your go bag in an easy to reach area near an exit, so that you can easily and safely grab it while evacuating.
